And there is reason to hope already, because important pro-life legislation and the all-important Supreme Court nominee vote are coming quickly! Also, on February 27th, please come to the Iowa Capitol to support the Life at Conception Act (see details below)!

According to the Family Leader:
“The Iowa Legislature is about to consider SF 253, a bill that would establish life begins at conception in the Iowa code. But if the Senate Judiciary Committee does not pass this bill in the next week … it will die this session, and we may never have an opportunity like this again.
Come make history with us on Monday, Feb. 27th! Wear black. Come to encourage our pro-life lawmakers at 11:00 a.m., and plan on staying until at least 1 p.m.
We will gather, space permitting, on the second floor of the south wing of the Capitol building, behind the Iowa Senate Chambers. Hope to see you there!”

Have your church take a day to fill, or go once a week or even just once during Lent. Try to go in groups of at least two, and you can sign up online HERE. When you go, you can park at Hobby Lobby. Please pray about it and make the commitment to stand for life!
Also, Geneveve has organized a weekly adoration hour for 40 Days for Life on every Monday from 6:00 – 7:00 pm. All are invited.

Des Moines “Birth Mother Connect” Support Group
To provide birth mothers a place to find support, Beauty Amidst the Ashes is beginning a Birth Mother Support Group for mothers who have given up a child for adoption. Birth mothers will connect and be empowered to share their stories. They would like to ask your assistance to let women know about this group. The group meets monthly on the first Tuesday of each month from 6:00 – 7:00 pm at the Smokey Row Coffee Shop Conference Room (1910 Cottage Grove Avenue, Des Moines).
In addition to these monthly group meetings, there will be a closed Facebook group to reach women that are not able to attend a local meeting. The online group will offer a place where women can view a monthly presentation by our facilitator, Brigett De Vos, and participate in discussions. Together these women can find strength, friendship and encouragement. For more information, contact Brigett at brigett@beautyamidsttheashes.

Petition to US Congress to Defund Planned Parenthood
According to CitizenGo: “To keep funding, Planned Parenthood claims that they do far more than just abortion—they are supposedly committed to providing women the full range of reproductive health services, including prenatal care.
Live Action, a pro-life organization, decided to investigate this claim that Planned Parenthood provides parental services and called 97 clinics across the country asking for prenatal care. Only 5 provided any prenatal services! Watch this three-minute video HERE to hear the responses Live Action received.”
Please help keep the pressure on Congress to defund Planned Parenthood, which obviously focuses on abortions. We should “redirect those funds to community health centers that actually provide women with holistic care, including desperately needed prenatal care.”

Iowa Pro-Life Bill Passes Senate and Goes On to House – Action Needed!
Senate File 2 is a bill which, according to Iowa Right to Life, would take away funding from clinics who do abortions and send those funds to qualified medical clinics. Senate File 2 recently passed the Iowa Senate in a vote of 30-20! Now it is moving on to the Iowa House.
To help, please do three things:
1. E-mail Key Iowa Representatives Encouraging Them to Defend Life
According to The Family Leader, Iowa legislators who support pro-life legislation are being attacked verbally and even threatened. Please easily send an encouraging e-mail to the Iowa House Human Resources Committee, which is handling the SF 2 bill which would take away funding from clinics who do abortions. Please take less than a minute to e-mail the whole committee through The Family Leader’s one-step, easy form HERE!
2. E-mail your Iowa Representative and ask them to support SF 2 HERE. This is important for after the bill passes through committee and moves on to discussion in the Iowa House.
3. Sign Petition to Thank Iowa Senate for Passing SF 2 HERE. This is important to encourage our pro-life Iowa Senators. My family and I went to the Capitol recently and talked with a couple pro-life legislators. They are being harrassed and threatened over this issue. They need to know that they are not alone!
Urge President Trump to Support Religious Liberty
According to Human Life Action:
Please use this quick, prepared message to e-mail President Trump and Vice President Pence to encourage President Trump to “issue an Executive Order that establishes a government-wide initiative to respect religious freedom. The Executive Order should make clear that religious freedom entails more than the freedom to worship but also includes the ability to act on one's beliefs.”
Urge Congress to Enact the Conscience Protection Act of 2017
According to Human Life Action:
“The Conscience Protection Act of 2017 (H.R. 644) has been introduced in the House of Representatives… This much-needed, common-sense legislation will clarify federal law and ensure that those who provide health care and health coverage can continue to do so without being forced by government to help destroy innocent unborn children. Please take a moment to let your representatives in Congress know that we expect them to protect our most cherished liberties.”
This legislation is supported by Cardinal Dolan and Archbishop Lori, who wrote Congress a letter supporting the conscience protection legislation.
Contact your US Representatives with a quick, prepared message HERE. It is the first USCCB Action Alert listed.

They are hoping to work effectively together to promote pro-life goals, especially pro-life legislation.
Good Idea to Show Reality of Unborn Babies
According to an article at churchpop.com, pro-life women in Chile “broadcast the heart-beat of their unborn child live during the event. They accomplished this by strapping fetal monitors to their pregnant bellies and amplifying the real-time heartbeat of their children through loudspeakers.” It’s a cool idea that would leave no doubts as the early heartbeat of young babies.

Pro-Life Pope Francis
“It’s terrible, it hurts the soul what I heard one time years ago in another diocese. A woman, a good woman, very, very beautiful and who bragged about her beauty, commented as if it were natural: ‘Yeah, I had to have an abortion because my figure is so important’…
Rather than promoting life, [idols] drive us toward death. When values such as physical beauty, health become idols to which everything must be sacrificed, they create confusion in our spirit and in our hearts.”
- Pope Francis, at a Wednesday audience this January
You can see more details in a LifeNews article HERE.
Thanks for all you do to love life!
