Delightful December

I will be honest that winter is a hard time for me with all of the cold and being stuck inside so much… but it is such a blessing to have the holidays to look forward to! The extra family time and special traditions really lift your spirits!

One tradition that my family has is doing birthday presents for Jesus throughout Advent. We do a variety of service and after each one we write what we did on a notecard and put it in a gift box at the bottom of our little Christmas tree. Then before we open any presents on Christmas, we open the box and remember the gifts we gave Jesus since it is His birthday : )

www.catholictradition.org/

If you are looking for a new way to prepare your heart for meeting Jesus at Christmas, I would challenge you to do some pro-life service this month (among other types of service too). You could do things like meeting the needs of crisis pregnancy clinics (many have wish lists you can look up online) or encouraging a single mom or adoptive family with a card and a giftcard so they can do something special. You could also volunteer for a few hours at a pro-life organization, pray for an end to abortion and pray for those effected by abortion, or attend a pro-life fundraiser.

Whatever you do, thank you for loving life and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

NCHLA – Urgent! Urge Passage of ANDA

From NCHLA & USCCB:

"NCHLA has just issued an Action Alert urging passage of the Abortion Non-Discrimination Act (ANDA). Messages to your US Representatives and Senators are needed to support this pro-life legislation!

Recently, the California Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) ordered all health plans under its jurisdiction to provide coverage for all abortions. Other states are considering similar proposals.

California’s action violates federal law. The Abortion Non-Discrimination Act (ANDA) will make sure this is clear. In a November 17 letter to Congress, the U.S. Bishops urge Congress to incorporate ANDA into must-pass funding legislation at the earliest possible opportunity.

Congress is now preparing funding legislation that must be passed by Dec. 11. This funding debate may extend into the new year. Please encourage people to contact their U.S. Representatives and Senators today!"

Take one minute to send a prepared e-mail to your legislators telling them to support this important legislation HERE

Court Rules Against Priests for Life Lawsuit

Summarized from Priests for Life:

On Friday, November 14, the  U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit ruled against Priests for Life's challenge to the HHS mandate in the case Priests for Life et al. vs. US Dept. of HHS et al.

Fr. Frank Pavone, Director of Priests for Life, commented, "As we have said from the beginning, Priests for Life will not obey the HHS mandate. To ask a group of priests to cooperate in the government's plan to expand access to birth control and abortion-inducing drugs is about as contrary to religious freedom as you can get."

Robert Muise of the American Freedom Law Center, which represents Priests for Life in this case, stated, "This decision by the D.C. Circuit, a court that was recently packed by Obama through Harry Reid's nuclear option, totally disregards the meaning of material cooperation as our Church teaches it… This battle is not over.  We will continue our fight for religious freedom by challenging this decision in the U.S. Supreme Court."

For more information on this case, on Priests for Life's response, and what you can do, see IStandWithPFL.com.

NFP Postpartum Class - November 17th

Part of being pro-life means not using artificial contraception for many health and moral reasons. Natural Family Planning, such as the sympto-thermal method, involves using knowledge of a woman’s cycle to either postpone or achieve a pregnancy.

Couple to Couple League offers local classes on the sympto-thermal method of NFP. One of the classes is on the changes that happen after a baby is born and the signs of returning fertility. This class is recommended 1-2 months before or after your due date.

The Dawsons are offering a Postpartum Transitions Class at Little Padded Seats (Valley West Mall - Lower Level by Younkers) on Monday, November 17th from 6-8 p.m. For more information or to register for the class, see the CCL website HERE (to register for the class, click on the red "Search/Register for Classes" tab).

Continue to Pray to End Webcam Abortions in Iowa

Please continue to pray for an end to webcam abortions in Iowa!

From Iowa Catholic Conference: Webcam Abortion Continues for Now

“A Polk County District Court judge ruled in favor of the Iowa Board of Medicine in August and upheld its right to discontinue webcam abortions in Iowa. However, Planned Parenthood has appealed the decision to the Iowa Supreme Court. Webcam abortions are being allowed to continue while the Supreme Court decides whether to grant a review.”

Send a 1-minute Prepared Message to your US Senators –

Unbiased Government Source Says that the Affordable Care Act Pays for Abortions

According to NCHLA, “on September 15th the U.S. Government Accountability Office published a report identifying over a thousand health plans under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that cover elective abortions, many of which do not inform enrollees about the inclusion or cost of abortion coverage. These problems flow directly from defects in the ACA.”

Please urge your two U.S. Senators to co-sponsor and support the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Acts. The Senate will be in session starting November 12th. To send your prepared messages to your Senators today in one minute or less, click HERE.

Pro-Life Pope Francis

“Abortion compounds the grief of many women who now carry with them deep physical and spiritual wounds after succumbing to the pressures of a secular culture which devalues God’s gift of sexuality and the right to life of the unborn...We also observe with great concern, and can only deplore, an increase in violence against women and children. All these realities threaten the sanctity of marriage, the stability of life in the home and consequently the life of society as a whole.”

Pope Francis
(On April 25th, 2014, to a group of bishops from South Africa, Botswana and Swaziland)

Pope Francis Visited Cemetery for Aborted Children in South Korea

Pope Francis recently visited South Korea, and, while there, he visited a cemetery for aborted children. According to this article on the significance of his choice to visit the cemetery, South Korea has one of the highest abortion rates in the world.

In the article, Steven Mosher says, “Pope Francis’s visit to the cemetery will shine a light upon the Korean abortion holocaust and, I pray, help bring it to an early end. After all, the theme of the Pope’s trip is: “Rise Korea, clothe yourself in light; the Lord’s glory shines upon you.”

Americans United for Life – Sign Petition to Stop the Freedom of Choice Act

“The pro-abortion “Freedom of Choice Act” (FOCA) is back, under a misleading new name. We have not faced a bill with such destructive potential in years.

With more pro-life laws passed in the last three years than in the entire previous decade, and after suffering a significant loss in the Hobby Lobby case, President Obama and his Big Abortion allies in the U.S. Senate are now brazenly trying to destroy the efforts that together we have worked for years to create.

The “Women’s Health Protection Act” is destructive to women and their unborn children and is FOCA under a different name. This bill would eliminate:

Pray to End the Continued Threats Against Religious Freedom

While the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled in favor of religious liberty in the Hobby Lobby case, the Senate attempted to overthrow the decision immediately after. The attempt was unsuccessful, but it is a reminder that we are never totally finished. Please keep praying for the protection of religious freedom for for-profit and non-profit organizations. The Priests the Life case continues to move on the legal track also, and that will be one of the biggest cases for religious non-profit groups. Thank you for your prayers!

Another Iowa Planned Parenthood Location Stops Webcam Abortions

From Iowa Right to Life: “Late this afternoon, we learned that another Planned Parenthood of the Heartland has stopped offering webcam abortions! Cedar Rapids has now become an “abortion referral” location. This marks the third clinic in the last few weeks to stop dangerous, in-house webcam abortions. Twelve clinic have shut their doors for good in the past two years. Fourteen Planned Parenthoods remain, with nine still performing abortions.”

Pro-Life Pope Francis

From Priests for Life: “On the morning of April 11, 2014, the Holy Father received 470 members of the Italian Movement for Life. Here is an excerpt of his address:

“Human life is sacred and inviolable…. Every civil right is based on the recognition of the first, fundamental right, the right to life, which is not subject to any condition, of a qualitative, economic, and certainly not of an ideological nature... Therefore, it is necessary to reaffirm our solid opposition to any direct offence against life, especially when innocent and defenseless, and the unborn child in its mother’s womb is the quintessence of innocence. Let us remember the words of the Vatican Council II: ‘Therefore from the moment of its conception life must be guarded with the greatest care while abortion and infanticide are unspeakable crimes’. …”

Have a great rest of the summer everyone! Thanks for all that you do, and may God bless you and your work!

Always,
Rachel  :)
